Every July our little town holds a big festival complete with a special day set aside just for kids. I’ve started a tradition by taking my nephew and my son to the festivities, but this year something happened that caught me by surprise.
Completely out of the blue, some friends of mine said, “Sonya! Do you want to come and speak for us this year at MOPs? We’ve been reading your blog and you are a blogger to follow!”
Wow! I totally felt encouraged. Someone not only noticed that I blog, but they affirmed me by saying, “You are a blogger to follow.”
When someone takes notice of all those things that you do behind the scenes, it just feels good. Maybe for you it’s picking up the toys for the umpteenth time. Or doing 15 loads of laundry every week while following your toddler’s every move to make sure they don’t hurt themselves. Or maybe it’s simply praying every day for the needs of others and your family.
A Blogger to Follow Looks Like…
What exactly does a blogger to follow look like?
Sometimes it’s easier when someone else describes it for you and that is exactly what my dear blogging friend Cindy from Go, Gather, Grow has done. This September, Cindy nominated me for the Liebster Award. Here is what she said:
“Oh, so many to choose from! There is, however, one blogger that speaks to my heart, ever since I first ‘met’ her in a Facebook bloggers group, and she is Sonya Rottman who blogs at Healthy Living Mom. She is a sweet, loving and caring woman who readily and willingly helps other bloggers with words of encouragement, prayer, sources of information and generates happiness in her trail. I have not met her in person but I sure would love to!Her blog is beautiful and starts off with “You Were Meant for More“…how encouraging is that? She writes about healthy living, both physically and spiritually. You can check out her recent posts here. Don’t forget to browse her tab “Join the Living Room“. Did I mention that her blog is beautiful? I love it…I know you will too!”
In addition to my friends telling me I’m a blogger to follow, Cindy has graciously affirmed that too.
The Liebster Award: A Blogger to Follow
The Liebster Award originally was given out to blogs with less than 2000 readers, but this has slowly lowered to only 200 readers or less. The nomination is given to bloggers by blogging peers. It helps bring awareness of what bloggers to follow while connecting and supporting the blogging community.
I first “met” Cindy in a private Facebook group for Christian bloggers. She had started a Facebook Live video and I was able to catch the tail end of it. The first thing that I noticed was her genuine love for the Lord. Her words were clothed with peace and joy and I can remember feeling like we were knit together like kindred spirits.
If you haven’t taken the chance to visit Cindy’s blog, you can take a look at https://gogathergrow.com/2017/09/01/liebster-award-encouragement/ Cindy blesses others by her words of encouragement. She has a deep love for God’s Word and she exhorts us to dig deeper in His Word not just for ourselves—but to reach the world.
Our friendship has grown in so many ways and although I have never met Cindy in person—I can’t wait when that day happens. She is and always will be Sweet Cindy to me!
As I read Cindy’s nomination, tears welled up in my eyes. Like I mentioned before, sometimes it’s so hard for us to see how others see us. Thank you Sweet Cindy for nominating me for this award and telling others that I am a blogger to follow. You bless me so much.
Healthy Living Mom – It Started with Why
Blogging over the years has always been in the back of my mind, but it became a reality when my calling to blog became very clear.
One night my husband was visiting some friends of ours and I had sent something along with him to help the husband with stress that he was experiencing. The wife immediately replied and said, “She just become one of those people who thinks the answer to living healthy is taking those pills. The words stung, but it was then that I knew I was called to write.
You Were Meant for More
If you are new to my site, my prayer is that you will quickly discover that I believe wholeheartedly—you were meant for more. Healthy living is doing what you love.
I invite you to take a peak around, kind of like you’re meeting someone on their front porch. Or follow along with me—by joining me in The Living Room. A life you love is possible. You can make it happen—and I’ve love to help!
A Little Something More About Me
1. My favorite season is Summer.
2. My favorite Bible verse is Nehemiah 8:10.
3. My favorite blog article that I have written is Clutter Free Living, Isn’t What You Think, Or Is It?
This post was super fun to write because I also got to speak about the subject of clutter free living. Clutter and minimalism are buzz words right now and it’s super fun to watch people become enlightened by the fact that a lot of clutter stems from what we believe.
4. I’m a dark chocolate fan
5. My favorite children’s book is Charlotte’s Web.
6. I would love to go to Switzerland someday with my family.
7. My favorite book is the Bible. Second to that, I love to read so there are many favorites!
8. I generally blog when my son is sleeping, which is early early morning and mid afternoon. Although I have seasons where I get away for an evening—I love doing this!
9. The beach is my favorite quiet time spot.
10. I am most thankful for faith in Jesus Christ. He is my hope, my guide, provider, and protector.

What is the one thing that you’ve always loved to do—but you wished your friends and family really knew it?
And…what are some helpful things people could say to be encouraging?
